Five floors of reused materials
Architecture and interior photography of Krohnen. A five-storey commercial building in solid wood and glulam, documented for B+B Arkitekter and GC Rieber Eiendom's entry to Bergen's architecture competition.
About
The brief centred on capturing the building's solid wood structure and material reuse (bricks, timber beams, steel from previous buildings on site). We focused on showing the warm, functional interiors and the exposed timber frame that defines the architecture. No wasted angles, just clear documentation of what was built.
Project: Krohnen
Location: Solheimsviken, Bergen, Norway
Type: Commercial (five-storey office building)
Photographed for: B+B Arkitekter and GC Rieber Eiendom.
Featured in: Tre og Profil, GC Rieber Eiendom marketing materials
My approach
The ground floor opens to a social zone with exposed wood and greenery. Upper floors offer flexible office layouts, with open workspaces, cellular offices, shared zones. The recessed facades on floors one, two, and five create visual rhythm with neighbouring buildings, while large glass panels reveal the timber structure from the street.
Having visited during construction, I planned exterior angles and worked closely on-site with the architect to agree on key views and cut unnecessary coverage.
Results
The images were used for Bergen Municipality's Architecture and Urban Planning Award nomination (Krohnen was shortlisted among eight projects). The set also supports the developer's sustainability messaging: BREEAM-NOR Outstanding and NOLLCO2 certifications, with a carbon footprint of 213 kg CO2e/mยฒ (roughly half a standard commercial building).
